Every child belongs.

INCLUSIVE SPORTS = Sports Designed for Everyone.

Why sports should be Inclusive ?

We believe that sport should be inclusive because its transformative power lies in its ability to bring people together. Inclusive sport amplifies this potential by creating spaces where children of all abilities learn, grow, and connect through shared experiences. It goes beyond competition, teaching values like empathy, teamwork, and resilience while breaking down barriers and fostering a sense of belonging. By embracing inclusion, sport becomes a powerful force for equality, understanding, and social change.

What are the Gaps?

Our Approach to establishing Inclusive Teams

"An inclusive team is one where everyone is welcome, regardless of limitations, gender, background or experience - exercising together, having fun and learning from each other."

To ensure that sports clubs establish inclusive teams as a norm, we follow three project phases with each club:

  • This is the formal start of our project - a free trial phase. The first milestone is achieved when the club agrees to start this phase with us. Equal Play engages with each club to provide free access to their pitch, equipment, coaches and training plan. We secure the participating kids, support the clubs in finding (volunteer) coaches, engage in parent outreach, secure funding and promote the project.

  • Upon successful completion of the concept phase, we engage with the club to formally create  an inclusive team (“i-Team”) for kids to register in. This is usually another major milestone! The club provides participating kids with paid access to pitch, equipment, uniforms, kits, coaches and training plan. Equal Play secures funding for recruiting and training new coaches, support in procuring needed adaptive equipment for the club, help secure more participants, engage in parent outreach, secure funding and promote the project. We also engage with the respective sports federations to organise competitions between “i-Teams" and other teams.

  • At this stage, the first “i-Team" is well- established. We then engage with the club to potentially establish more i-Teams (based on parent interest). The club takes ownership 100% and continues to provide their “i-Team(s)" paid access to pitch, equipment, uniforms, kits, coaches and training plan. Equal Play takes a hands-off approach with each club reaching this phase - we however continue to promote the clubs and their “i-Team(s)" through our social media channels and monitor their progress.

What we aim for:

  • Target at least 24 kids for Concept phase.

  • Focus on mixed kids - boys and girls. Ages 6 -12.

  • Balance teams with kids with and without disability.

  • Ensure sufficient coaching and needs support.

  • Clubs have safeguarding & insurance policies.

  • 4-6 weeks free trial inclusive sport clinic with each club.

  • Club formally establishes an “i-Team” after pilot.

  • Club membership fees should be at reduced rate.
